Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech Faces Another Setback as Potential Move Collapses

Chelsea’s attempts to offload Hakim Ziyech have hit a roadblock yet again, as his latest potential move has reportedly collapsed. The reason behind the failure remains unclear, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the player’s future.

Rumors began circulating on Thursday evening, claiming that Ziyech had not passed his medical with Saudi Arabia‘s Al Nassr. This was later corroborated by a report from The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, who stated that a knee issue had scuppered the £8-million transfer. Ziyech, who is 30 years old, was on the verge of signing a three-year contract with the club that boasts Cristiano Ronaldo as its star player.

According to a report by Thescore.com, however, it appears that the breakdown of the deal was not solely due to the failed medical. Sources from Al Nassr have indicated that the two parties had not reached an agreement on the final terms of Ziyech’s contract, leading to the halt in the move. Furthermore, officials from the club expressed their disappointment with reports suggesting that the Moroccan winger had failed his medical examination.

This latest setback leaves Ziyech in a state of uncertainty at Stamford Bridge. In January, he was on the brink of being loaned to Paris Saint-Germain, only for the deal to collapse due to Chelsea’s alleged failure to submit the necessary paperwork on time. A representative from PSG reportedly labeled the situation a “Class A circus.”

It seems that Ziyech has faced other failed attempts to secure a transfer. Roma’s sporting director, Tiago Pinto, revealed that discussions with Ziyech’s agents and Chelsea took place in January, but a move did not materialize, as per transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

This latest development comes as Chelsea attempts to offload several players in a bid to improve their financial standing for the upcoming financial year. Players such as Kai HavertzMateo Kovacic, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have already been sold, while there are reports that Mason Mount could be joining Manchester United. N’Golo KanteKalidou Koulibaly, and Edouard Mendy have all made moves to Saudi Arabia. Ziyech was expected to be part of this exodus.

In 2020, Ziyech made the switch from Ajax to Chelsea in a deal worth approximately £33 million. However, since the failed January transfers, he has only started two Premier League matches, with the most recent being a 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in February.
