Report: Chelsea have just overtaken Arsenal in the race to sign ‘incredible’ £40m player this summer

There’s been a wave of transfer speculation already this summer regarding the future of Romeo Lavia, whose Southampton side were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Now, it looks like the Blues are in a good spot this summer in pursuit of the 19-year-old midfielder.

FootballTransfers has claimed on Tuesday that Premier League sides Chelsea and Liverpool have both jumped ahead of Arsenal in the Lavia pursuit.

It is understood that Chelsea and Liverpool are now in a better position to sign the Belgium international.

The report explains that Southampton value their young talent at £40million and are in a rush to sell players this summer before rebuilding their squad for a year in the Championship.

Arsenal were seen as the favourites to land the Saints star at one stage, but their focus elsewhere means they could miss out on him.

Apparently, Mikel Arteta’s side will prioritise signing West Ham’s Declan Rice and sorting out the sale of Thomas Partey before competing for Lavia. It could be too late by then!

We would now like to see Chelsea move swiftly for the Southampton star, but Liverpool’s presence means the player’s future is still unclear.

Described as “incredible” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, Lavia proved last year just how good he already is.

The teenager coped very well last season in England’s top division and was a shining light in a poor Southampton line-up.

He’s exactly the type of No 6 Chelsea need in the squad. Ideally, him and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo could compete at Stamford Bridge next season.
