David Beckham has revealed he was subject to thousands of messages after news broke of Lionel Messi’s transfer to Inter Miami.
The 2022 World Cup winner announced last month that he was set to join the MLS giants after running his contract down at Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi had been linked with a big-money switch to Saudi Arabia, while Barcelona desperately looked to bring him back to the Nou Camp.
But he has decided to choose a new adventure in America, where he will be playing alongside ex-Blaugrana teammate Sergio Busquets.
His transfer is poised to be officially announced by Inter Miami on Wednesday, with the club’s co-owner Beckham lifting the lid on the incredible reaction he received after the initial news broke.
Beckham was interviewed by producer Ben Winston about qualities of leadership for the launch of a fellowship for Jewish educators in the name of Lira Winston – mother of Ben and wife of acclaimed fertility pioneer Lord Robert Winston – who died suddenly in December 2021 aged 72 with a heart attack.
Commenting on Messi joining Miami, he said: “The team is one of the things I am most proud of and one of the toughest things I’ve done in my career, but also one of the most rewarding.
“A couple of weeks ago I woke up to thousands of messages on my phone.
“I was in Japan at that point – the news had come out that Lionel was coming to Miami.
“My dream from the word go was to bring the best players in the game to Miami wherever they were in their career – I made that commitment to our fans.

“So when you hear that one of the best players, if not the best player, who has won everything in the game, and who is still a great player and still young and doing what he is doing, wants to come play for my team, it was a massive moment.
“So it’s an exciting time – although it has not been officially announced yet.”
Messi will be joining an Inter Miami side that are rooted to the bottom of the Eastern Conference having lost 13 out of their 19 games.
Sergio Aguero has revealed his close friend ‘cracked up’ when he told him of their dire form and league position.
But he will have to wait until August 20 to help Inter Miami climb up the table with the MLS season currently on pause due to the Leagues Cup.
Inter face Mexican outfit Cruz Azul on July 21 which could see Messi make his debut.
